Capture is a Chrome extension that allows users to capture, edit, and save screenshots directly in their browser.
Your privacy is important to us. Capture is designed to keep your screenshots and extension data on your own device. This Privacy Policy explains what information Capture accesses, how it is used, where it is stored, and whether it is shared.
1. Information Capture Handles
Capture may handle the following information when you use its features.
Screenshots and webpage content
When you use Capture to take a screenshot, the extension temporarily processes the visible content of the webpage or the portion of the webpage you choose to capture.
Depending on your settings, screenshots may be stored locally on your device in the browser's IndexedDB storage. Screenshot history may include:
- Screenshot images
- Thumbnail images
- Screenshot filename
- Capture type
- Capture date and time
- Image size
This information remains on your device and is not uploaded to our servers.
Extension preferences
Capture uses Chrome's local storage
(chrome.storage.local) to store your preferences,
including:
- Default capture mode
- Countdown setting
- Image format
- JPG quality
- Light/dark theme
- Screenshot history setting
- History limit
These preferences are stored locally in your browser.
Active tab information
Capture uses Chrome's activeTab permission to
access the current browser tab after you explicitly start
a capture, such as by clicking Capture or using the extension's
keyboard shortcut.
Capture may read information from the active tab that is necessary to perform the requested screenshot operation.
Capture does not use this access to build or maintain a browsing history.
2. How Your Information Is Used
The information Capture handles is used only to provide its functionality, including:
- Taking screenshots
- Capturing selected areas
- Capturing full webpages
- Editing and annotating screenshots
- Creating screenshot thumbnails
- Maintaining local screenshot history
- Saving your preferences
- Copying screenshots to your clipboard
- Downloading screenshots to your computer
- Opening screenshots for editing or viewing
Capture does not use your screenshots or webpage content for advertising, analytics, profiling, or unrelated purposes.
3. Local Storage
Capture is designed to keep your data on your device.
Screenshots and their associated history information are stored using the browser's local IndexedDB storage.
Extension preferences are stored using Chrome's local storage API.
If you disable screenshot history, screenshots may be retained temporarily so that Capture can complete the editing workflow and are then automatically removed after approximately six hours.
You can also delete individual history items or clear your screenshot history through the extension.
Uninstalling Capture removes the extension's locally stored data according to Chrome's extension storage behavior.
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
Capture does not sell, rent, or share your screenshots, webpage content, or extension data with third parties.
Capture does not intentionally send screenshots, webpage content, preferences, or screenshot history to external servers.
Capture does not use:
- Advertising networks
- Analytics services
- Tracking services
- User accounts
- External databases
- External APIs for processing your screenshots
- Remote servers for storing your screenshots
Capture operates using Chrome's built-in extension APIs and local browser storage.
5. Network and Remote Code
Capture does not intentionally upload your screenshots or webpage content to an external server.
Capture does not load or execute remote JavaScript code.
The extension's functionality is provided by code included with the extension and Chrome's built-in extension APIs.
6. Downloads, Clipboard, and Opening Screenshots
When you choose to download a screenshot, Capture creates the requested image file and saves it to your computer through the browser's normal download functionality.
When you choose to copy a screenshot, Capture places the image on your system clipboard so that you can paste it into another application.
When you choose to open a screenshot in a new tab, the screenshot is displayed locally in your browser.
These actions are initiated by you.
7. Chrome Permissions
Capture requests only the permissions necessary for its functionality.
Capture does not request broad browsing-history, downloads, location, or other unrelated permissions.
8. Third-Party Services
Capture does not intentionally send your data to third-party services.
Capture does not use third-party advertising, analytics, tracking, or screenshot-processing services.
Capture uses Chrome's built-in extension APIs, including
activeTab, scripting, and
storage, to provide its functionality.
9. Children's Privacy
Capture does not knowingly collect personal information from children or from any other users.
Because Capture is designed to process screenshots locally on the user's device, it does not require users to create an account or provide personal information.
10. Your Control Over Your Data
You control the screenshots and settings stored locally by Capture.
You can:
- Delete individual screenshots from history
- Clear your screenshot history
- Disable screenshot history
- Change Capture's settings
- Uninstall Capture
Because Capture does not maintain a remote account or server containing your screenshots, there is no separate server-side account or database from which your screenshots need to be requested or deleted.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated if Capture's functionality or data practices change.
When changes are made, the "Last updated" date at the beginning of this policy will be updated accordingly.
